Here is a list of things I use and like.
DIGITAL TOOLS
Strikingly - I love using Strikingly because I don't need a complete technical background to make a cool website (even though I am working on a CS Degree). I particularly like the idea of helping people with less technical skills showcase their talents and abilities online. I am somewhat interested in their position of happiness officer as a job in the future.
Trello - In my CSE 201 class we are learning some ideas about project management, but I've found that using Trello is equally useful and more intuitive for keeping track of thoughts Ideas and projects.
OpenAI / ChatGPT / Google - I'm really interested to see where the search and information technology takes the future. It seems like schools should utilize these tools more to help students learn rather than restrict their access. It is kind of depressing to learn that anything I want to do, some tool can already do it better, however as the star wars quote goes "There's always a bigger fish".
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Withings Body+ Scale, MyFitnessPal, and Garmin Forerunner 245- I like these products because I like the idea of keeping track of my fitness data and the future idea of being able to connect it as medical information. I've found when I do keep track of my weight and calories, I tend to be able to manage it better. I did have a problem where my scale was not syncing with the Health Mate app or MyFitnessPal when I weighed myself, but I managed to get it working after I disassociated the product and then reconnected it. I saw they have some jobs so I'll keep an eye on them for the future.
Premier MyChart- I really like being able to manage appointments online, but my favorite part about using MyChart is that I can message the Dr. /Nurse directly for questions and they usually give a response. I highly recommend Dr. Ordway if you are in the Springboro area.
Nutrition and Excercise - When I am feeling well, I eat at chipotle and I excercise at Miami, Oxford Rec Center. I also highly recommended Dorothy Lane Market for a high end grocery store/dining experience.
COLLEGE EXPERIENCE AT MIAMI OXFORD.
Academic Classes at Miami, Oxford- Part of the issue I have with traditional schooling is that it doesn't seem like I am actually learning any skills that will make me money (create value) in the future, but instead I am learning how to go to office hours and interact with the professor / TA's to get the answers. A lot of the projects are simply not interesting and because of academic intergrity polices, most of the time we are not supposed to interact with classmates on assignments. I made some friends from continally seeing them in classes, but some of my closest friends from school are the tutors I was able to work with at the Rinella Learning Center.
Rinella Learning Center- This tutoring center was very useful for making connections at Miami and everyone there is very knowledable and helpful. Many of the tutors I had ended up in some of my classes, so I made friends in this way.
Computer Security Club at Miami Oxford - I've found the computer security club at Miami Oxford to be more interesting and useful than most of the classes I have taken. I've also noticed that the most talented students typically learn from a young age and are self motivated, rather than learning technical skills via formal schooling. Some intersting resources I learned about through the club are companies like Cryptic Vector and Caesar Creek Software that do contract work for US gov. I also learned about skills website like HackTheBox and TryHackMe. Some notable meetings included a CTF Challege hosted by CV, and learning a little bit about Kali Linux and Docker Desktop in a CTF hosted by Battelle. Ideally I would like to work at a company like the ones mentioned above.
Hawks Landing Apartments- I really like my off-campus apartment at Miami. The staff is very helpful and the pool and hot tub are very nice to use during the warmer months. My only complaint is that my bathroom fan is very noisy, but I haven't submitted a maintenence request yet so it's partially my fault.
Miami Oxford Rec Center- I have taken a few classes at the rec center and they are just challenging enough that you feel good about yourself when you finish without feeling too overwhelmed. The best part is you get the feeling everyone there is trying to be the best version of themself.
Bars / Social - I feel too old for most of the bars in Oxford, but I have enjoyed O-pub and Circle Bar and met some cool people. I also like Bagel and Deli and Rapid Fired Pizza.
