'The Vital Question'
Energy, Evolution, and the Origins of Complex Life
This is a book I started by Nick Lane. I don't really know anything about biology so I thought it might be an interesting read and I might pick something up. The book takes a look at how single - celled organisms made the jump to complex life. Why are we as we are, and indeed, why are we here at all? Right now the book is a bit beyond my comprehension, but hopefully in the future I can understand more of it.
'The Tell-Tale Brain'
A Neuroscientist's quest for what makes us human
This is a book by V. S. Ramachandran out of the University of San Diego. It's really amazing how our minds work and this book is an extremely interesting read about the various disorders and quirks of the brain. One really interesting part of this book is when he begins discussing the brain 'disorder' synesthesia. Some people can actually taste colors??
'The Three Body Problem'
by Cixin Liu
I haven't started this book, but it looks really interesting.
From the back:
"Set against the backdrop of China's cultural revolution, a secret military project sends signals into space to establish contact with aliens. An alien civilization on the brink of destruction captures the signal and plans to invade Earth. Meanwhile, on Earth, different camps start forming, planning to either welcome the superior beings and help them take over a world seen as corrupt, or to fight against the invasion."
